Students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) are currently facing transportation challenges following an ongoing strike action by tricycle (keke) riders operating within the campus.

According to an internal memo released on April 7, 2026, by the Student Union Government (SUG) through the Office of the Director of Transport, the strike—described as unofficial—has significantly affected students’ daily academic and social activities.
The SUG acknowledged the inconvenience caused and appealed to students to remain calm and cooperative while efforts are being intensified to resolve the dispute and restore normal transport operations as soon as possible.
In response to the situation, the union revealed that steps are being taken to introduce alternative transportation options to ease movement within and around the campus. Students were also encouraged to make use of available shuttle services where possible.
Additionally, discussions are ongoing between relevant stakeholders to regulate transportation costs, particularly for motorcycle (bike) operators within Umudike. Students have been advised to negotiate fares before boarding and report any cases of exploitation or misconduct by riders.
The SUG reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair pricing and restoring stability to campus transportation while urging students to exercise patience during this period.
