The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has criticized the Federal Government for its slow response to ongoing demands, as its 14-day ultimatum nears its end.
The union is set to commence a two-week nationwide warning strike starting Monday, October 13, 2025.

ASUU President Chris Piwuna stated that the government's last-minute request to prevent a nationwide warning strike was insufficient and too late.
He highlighted a lack of timely communication from the Ministry of Education despite several meetings, with no updates until ASUU threatened action.
Piwuna also noted that the renegotiation of a 2009 agreement remains unresolved after eight years, emphasizing that appeals to avoid strikes come only under duress and at the last minute.
