The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has unveiled several initiatives aimed at strengthening academic excellence, student welfare, agricultural productivity and the University's global visibility.
Speaking during a media briefing and other official engagements, Prof. Akanwa highlighted ongoing efforts to position MOUAU for international recognition through improved research visibility, staff capacity building and strategic ranking initiatives.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced plans to renovate students' hostels after examinations, improve campus infrastructure and sustain the timely release of examination results.
In line with the University's agricultural mandate, she approved ₦20 million and allocated 16 hectares of farmland for large-scale cultivation of cassava, maize and other crops to boost food security, create jobs and increase internally generated revenue.
Prof. Akanwa further revealed the revival of Agri-Voice FM 106.9 following the cancellation of a ₦27 million debt, noting that the station will support student training, agricultural extension services and revenue generation.
She also emphasized the importance of microbiology in addressing global challenges such as food insecurity, climate change and public health concerns, describing scientific research as key to sustainable development.
Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that her administration has restored environmental cleanliness across the campus through extensive clearing and maintenance efforts, while putting measures in place to sustain a clean and conducive learning environment.
The initiatives, according to Prof. Akanwa, reflect MOUAU's commitment to innovation, agricultural development, academic excellence and global competitiveness.
