Bullying Turns Fatal: Akwa Ibom Student Dies After Brutal Attack

 

A junior secondary school student, identified as Gerald, of Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene, has reportedly died after sustaining injuries linked to an alleged bullying incident.

According to information gathered by IG KEYS reporters, the student was reportedly assaulted by a senior student who struck him repeatedly under the jaw, leading to serious internal injuries.


Family sources revealed that the school management initially took the victim to the school clinic without notifying his parents. He was later transferred to a general hospital, also without their knowledge. The parents were reportedly contacted only after his condition became critical.

Medical reports indicate that the injuries resulted in complications, including tetanus and seizures. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the student was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

In the aftermath of the incident, several parents have come forward with claims that bullying has been an ongoing issue within the school, raising concerns about student safety and administrative oversight.

The tragic development has left the family devastated, as they grapple with both emotional loss and the financial strain of medical expenses.

The incident has intensified calls for stricter anti-bullying measures and greater accountability from school authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
