The Students’ Union Government (SUG) has issued an official clarification regarding transportation fares within the university campus, firmly debunking claims of an approved increase in tricycle (keke) charges.
In a statement shared via his social media status, the SUG President, Hon. Nwogu Bright Chinonyerem, emphasized that the union has not authorized any increase in the current keke fare to ₦200, as has been speculated in some quarters.

According to the statement, students are strongly advised to resist paying any amount exceeding ₦150 for campus transportation until further notice from the union leadership.
The directive comes amid growing concerns from students over alleged arbitrary fare hikes by some keke operators within the institution.
The SUG leadership reassured students of its commitment to protecting their welfare and ensuring that transport charges remain fair and regulated. It also hinted that further directives would be communicated officially should there be any adjustments to the approved fare structure.
Students are therefore urged to remain vigilant and report any violations, as the union continues to engage relevant stakeholders to address the situation.
The announcement serves as a timely intervention aimed at preventing exploitation and maintaining order in campus transportation activities.
