INEC Shifts 2027 Presidential Election, Announces Fresh Date

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled Nigeria’s 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, following the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the new Electoral Act 2026.

Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will now hold on February 6, 2027.

INEC also shifted the Osun State Governorship Election from August 8 to August 15, 2026, noting that all remaining preparations will align strictly with the Electoral Act 2026.

Party primaries are scheduled for April 23 to May 30, 2026, while campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will begin August 19, 2026.

The Commission urged political parties to adhere strictly to the revised timetable, warning that compliance will be enforced.
