BREAKING: MOUAU To Inaugurate New Vice Chancellor, March 2


The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), is poised for a historic transition as it prepares for the formal inauguration of Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa as its 7th Vice-Chancellor.

​The event, scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, marks a watershed moment for the 34-year-old federal institution, as Professor Akanwa becomes the first woman to lead the university since its establishment.

​The Governing Council and the entire University Community have extended a cordial invitation to the public for the ceremony:

​Professor Akanwa’s emergence followed a rigorous selection process involving 22 candidates. Her appointment was officially announced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Comrade Fidelis Chukwunweike Edeh, following the Council’s 95th meeting.

​She succeeds the outgoing 6th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, whose tenure concludes at the end of February 2026.
