The Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Chukwuemeka Christopher Ibeziako, Esq., has reiterated the Commission's reliance on the existing partnership with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) to sensitize voters within and around the University communities towards a successful general election in 2027.

Mr. Ibeziako made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the VC's Conference Room. The visit was part of INEC's engagement with key tertiary institutions during the second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, aimed at strengthening the existing collaboration between the two institutions ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2027.
The REC explained that the CVR exercise provides an opportunity for citizens who have attained the age of 18 since the last registration, as well as those who were unable to register previously, to do so. He commended MOUAU for its longstanding support to the Commission, particularly through the provision of staff who have served as ad hoc personnel during previous elections, describing the University as a reliable partner in ensuring credible electoral processes in the State.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, reaffirmed the University's commitment to supporting INEC's activities, assuring the delegation that MOUAU would encourage its students to register and update their voter records. Prof. Iwe also confirmed that the University premises would remain available for INEC's use and that staff would continue to be made available whenever required.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked INEC for its sensitization efforts and commended the REC for his dedication to strengthening Nigeria's democratic process. The visit underscores the importance of collaboration between electoral authorities and educational institutions in promoting civic engagement and ensuring the success of democratic processes in Nigeria.
