Eight people have been killed in a road crash opposite Unity Bank on Zaria Road in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, involving a trailer and a bus carrying students of the University of Jos.

Eyewitnesses said eleven people were on board the bus.
They stated that seven were pronounced dead at the scene, and another victim later died in the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to eight.
They claimed that the bus was speeding and improperly overtaking, causing the driver to lose control and cause the accident. Three more victims, all male, are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Peter Longsan, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.

Longsan said, “Today, 11th December 2025, FRSC Plateau State Sector Command received a distress call at about 0230 hours, reporting a road traffic crash opposite Unity Bank on Zaria Road, Jos.
A bus, a trailer, and two vehicles were involved in the accident. Eleven people were on board the bus and were said to be students of the University of Jos. On arrival, seven people were suspected to be dead on the spot, and they were eventually certified dead by a doctor.
“An additional victim later passed away in the hospital, bringing the total number of deceased individuals to eight. At the moment, the hospital is treating three more patients.
All of the victims were men. In addition, Olajide Mogaji, Sector Commander of FRSC Plateau, issued a response in which he cautioned motorists, particularly drivers, against night trips, excessive speed, dangerous driving, driving while intoxicated, and driving while fatigued or ill—all of which are significant contributors to fatal crashes on the road.
He stated, "The government needs you to be alive and wants you to live life to the fullest this holiday season and beyond."
In addition, he urged the general public to report accidents and other road emergencies by calling the FRSC's toll-free emergency number 122.
