President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, ordering that the officials be reassigned to middle policing responsibilities across the country.
The directive become issued throughout a protection assembly attended with the aid of pinnacle protection chiefs, inclusive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
The meeting followed rising instances of abductions and heightened safety threats nationwide.

"Tinubu ordered that going forward, police personnel need to cognizance strictly on their number one law-enforcement obligations. VIPs requiring protection escorts, he said, need to now obtain “properly-armed employees” from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
