The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a warning to public universities that have not yet begun their 2025 admissions processes to act quickly or risk losing their applicants.
The board said in a statement on Friday that the warning is in line with the decisions made at the policy meeting on admissions for 2025, which took place on July 18 and was presided over by Tunji Alausa, the minister of education.
According to JAMB, the meeting concluded with an agreement that all public universities must submit their 2025 first-choice admission recommendations by September 30.

Additionally, private universities were obligated to submit their recommended candidates by October 31.
In addition, the board stated that the public university admissions process would officially end on October 31 and the private university admissions process would end on November 30.
Polytechnics and colleges of education, among other tertiary institutions, are required to complete their admissions process by December 31.
According to the JAMB, "these timelines were designed to ensure a structured and predictable academic calendar across all institutions and to enable every tier of tertiary education to conduct its admission process seamlessly."

The Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the platform through which all admissions are conducted, has yet to receive a single admission recommendation from some public universities, despite the earlier resolution, according to the board.
The board stated, "It is especially concerning that certain public universities have not made any submissions, even after the deadline had passed in September."
According to JAMB, the affected universities include Benue State University in Makurdi, Abdulkadir Kure University, Northwest University in Kano, Nigeria Police Academy Wudil in Kano, University of Science and Technology in Wudil, and Benue State University. Kaduna's Nigerian Defence Academy, Oyo's Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, and Funtua's Funtua's Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences are among others.
The institutions were urged by JAMB to immediately begin accepting applications for the year 2025. It warned that all unprocessed candidates will be moved to the next level of institutions that are available if they do not comply within the approved timelines.
