The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a 14-day deadline to comply with its demands or face a nationwide university shutdown.

Prof., President of ASUU, On Monday, Christopher Piwuna made the announcement in a statement titled "Notice of Strike Action," in which he warned that the union might first go on a two-week warning strike before taking a full and indefinite strike.
The demands include: re-negotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, sustainable funding and revitalization of universities, payment of outstanding salary arrears, stalled promotions, third-party deductions, and alleged victimization of members at LASU, KSU (now Prince Abubakar Audu University), and FUTO.
Piwuna said that the government hasn't done anything about the problems, despite rallies and media appearances in recent months. He emphasized the threat to national development posed by education neglect and urged citizens, parents, students, and stakeholders to exert pressure on the government to take action.

ASUU asserted that the government possesses the resources necessary to resolve the crisis and issued a warning that the ultimatum was a final warning to avoid a shutdown.
