The Director of Transport of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Hon. Comr. Goodluck Ifeanyi U., paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Ukaegbu Isaac, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, to discuss the urgent need for improved transportation within the university community.
During the meeting, the SUG Director highlighted concerns over what he described as the government’s failure to adequately include the Umudike axis in ongoing transportation development plans across the state.

He emphasized the growing challenges faced by students and staff due to insufficient and unreliable transport systems within and around the campus.
In response, the Commissioner for transportation assured that efforts are underway to address the situation, revealing that plans have been made to allocate free buses to serve the Umudike community.
However, he noted that the current poor condition of key access roads, particularly along the Ahieke and Timber routes, has hindered the immediate deployment of the green shuttle buses.
Dr. Ukaegbu further assured that necessary steps are being taken to improve the road infrastructure, adding that the buses would commence operations once the routes become motorable.
The engagement marks a step toward strengthening collaboration between student leadership and the state government in addressing transportation challenges affecting the MOUAU community.
