The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is set to celebrate its 31st anniversary with a week-long Homecoming and Mega Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Programme aimed at equipping students with practical and digital skills for future success.
According to an official release from the Office of the SUG President, the event will run from Monday, April 13 to Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the New Modern Theatre Hall (Sambisa), beginning daily at 10:00 a.m.
The programme features a wide range of vocational and digital training sessions designed to promote creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation among students. Vocational skill areas include makeup artistry, fashion design, catering and baking, hair styling and barbing, bead making, generator repair, painting, and solar panel installation.

On the digital front, participants will be trained in high-demand areas such as digital marketing, web development, app development, graphic design, content creation, cybersecurity basics, and artificial intelligence. Other sessions will cover cryptocurrency and forex trading, affiliate marketing, and fintech business opportunities.
Organizers say the initiative is part of efforts to empower students with hands-on skills that go beyond the classroom, preparing them for both employment and self-reliance in an evolving global economy.
In addition to the training, grants worth up to ₦1,000,000 will be made available to outstanding participants, further encouraging innovation and skill application among students.
The event is also expected to serve as a homecoming platform, bringing together students, alumni, and stakeholders to celebrate the growth and achievements of the SUG over the past three decades.
Students have been encouraged to participate actively and take advantage of the opportunity to learn valuable skills, grow personally, and position themselves for future success.
