EPL: Man City lambast Burnley 5-1

On Saturday at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City defeated Burnley 5-1 to extend their lead over the Clarets to 14 consecutive victories across all competitions.

City went ahead in the 15th minute when Jérémy Doku’s shot was saved, but defender Maxime Estève mistakenly turned the rebound into his own net.

Burnley equalised before half-time, with Jaidon Anthony finishing off a Quilindschy Hartman cross after pressing City high up the pitch.

Lyle Foster and Hartman gave Burnley a chance to take the lead after the break, but City regained control. Matheus Nunes volleyed home a loose ball in the 62nd minute to put the hosts back in front.

Estève then scored a second own goal, turning another Nunes cross into his own net to make it 3-1.

Erling Haaland, who had missed earlier chances, wrapped up the victory with two late goals, sealing a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s men.
